What the Bible teaches about giving:
Giving acknowledges God as the giver of everything we have (James 1:17).
Giving reflects our trust that God will provide for us (Matthew 6:19-24).
Giving allows us to be active participants in God's work here on earth (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
Principles for giving:
TITHES & OFFERINGS: The Old Testament taught that there is a guideline for giving called the tithe (literally 10%; Malachi 3:10). Today, many people refer to the tithe as the regular portion of their income that they give to God through the ministry of their local church.
DESIGNATED OFFERINGS: There may be offerings given that go above and above and beyond our regular weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly giving. These can be designated, by choice of the giver, for a specific cause or need, or an offering can be given to help the general ministry of the local church.
MISSIONS GIVING: Our local church also supports missionaries who are called to take the message of the Gospel to select fields. We currently support three missionary families: Darin & Joy Stevens in England, Dan & Christi Ucherek in Mexico, and Josh & Katie Goshert in the Solomon Islands. Your giving to MISSIONS over and above your tithe helps to support these efforts as well as local missions outreaches.
